Like many of the greatest meals in history, the first Maketū Pies was created lovingly in a grandmother’s home kitchen. Fast forward 40 years, and now you can find Maketū Pies in all good dairies and supermarkets across Aotearoa.
With over 50 different product lines on offer, each distinct flavour is made using fresh local ingredients combined with a unique blend of herbs and spices. These fillings are then encased in handmade golden flaky pastry rolled to perfection to produce delicate mouth-watering layers.
From our pies to our sausage rolls, true to our roots, every item is still to this day made in the small coastal Bay of Plenty town by our Maketū Pies whanau. Each day, our dedicated group of local pie makers rise before the sun to ensure that every item that leaves the factory is of the best quality showcasing the manaakitanga and hospitality Maketū is famous for.
Whilst our offerings have changed and expanded over the decades, three core ingredients remain exactly the same as they did back in 1982 - perfect flaky pastry, fresh New Zealand-sourced ingredients and a whole lot of aroha.
